a graphically bold polka dot is in our print hall of fame for many reasons: it’s part preppy, part punchy and perfectly witty. it’s also ever-so-festive—and, in this season of plentiful party-going, a lovely reminder to steal the spotlight everywhere you go.

(we’re inordinately proud of our new book, all in good taste—it’s an essential guide to entertaining that whimsically covers the lost arts and modern day conundrums befitting hostesses and guests alike. the book itself is a little bit like a party, because it’s all the clever creative, inspiring women we invited as contributors who helped make it so special and unique.)
this morning across the pond in london, the barbican opened its doors to “the world of charles and ray eames,” an exhibition celebrating the husband-and-wife duo whose love of creative experimentation brought a groundbreaking sense of wonder to mid-century american design.
the eameses were the embodiment of the adage, “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”: they lived in and through their work, instilling it with their inimitable and contagious joie de vivre. while best known for their far-reaching influence on the worlds of furniture design and architecture, the twosome played with a variety of other mediums including photography, sculpture, painting and film.
(and on that note, we once spent an entire day joyfully lost in watching their complete collection of highly-stylized short films. highly recommend it.)
if you’re lucky enough to find yourself in london between now and next february, take the opportunity to view photographs, multi-media installations, and personal letters on display at the barbican. we think you’ll be inspired to, like the eameses, do things a little differently.
“the world of charles and ray eames” is on now through February 14, 2016, at the barbican in london.
